Jethro Tull 18 | Agalloch (от старинного названия дуба, растущего в Орегоне: Agalloch (также Agallocha, Agallochum) — мягкая, смолистая древесина с сильным ароматным запахом, сжигаемая для благоухания) — американская дарк-метал/фолк-метал-группа из Портленда, штат Орегон, США. Agalloch разработали уникальный стиль, сочетающий в себе жёсткий вокал дум-метала, продолжительные гитарные акустические пассажи, глубокомысленные меланхоличные, нигилистские тексты песен на основе фольклора, в частности, американских индейцев.
Из интервью гитариста Agalloch Дона Андерсона сайту : «…На нас серьёзно повлияли такие европейские группы, как Katatonia, Ulver, также как Sol Invictus, Forseti и Death in June».
Группа была основана в конце 1995 года Джоном Хаумом (John Haughm) и Шейном Брейером (Shane Breyer) после распада дум/дэт-метал проекта Aeolachrymae. Этот распад, кроме Agalloch, породил ещё два проекта: Susurrus Inanis и Nothing. Летом 1996 года к группе присоединился второй гитарист и клавишник Дон Андерсон (Don Anderson). Осенью 1996 года группа записала дебютную демо-запись «From Which of This Oak». После выпуска этого диска (1997) в состав группы вошёл бас-гитарист Джейсон Уильям Уолтон (Jason William Walton).
В начале 1998 года группой был записан промо-диск для звукозаписывающих компаний, который позволил заключить контракт с The End Records. И в январе 1999 года Agalloch приступили к записи дебютного альбома «Pale Folklore», который вышел в июне 1999 года.
В дальнейшем к группе присоединился барабанщик Крис Грин (Chris Greene). В 2001 году из группы ушёл клавишник Шейн Брейер.

нас совсем не осталось... уходим в андерграунд... | А мне понравился этот Agalloch. Страна, правда, удивляет. Очень необычно для американцев играть такого рода музыку. Если порыться, у них даже чисто-даркфолковые вещи есть.
